Fire Cider 🌿🔥

Updated: Dec 15, 2022

Year after year I slightly modify this recipe and add a few new things, here is what I used this year...

In a large jar ( I used 12 quart ball jar) add:

10 cloves of peeled & smashed Garlic

1 Red Onion sliced

2 Jalapeños cut into strips with the seeds removed

15 slices of Ginger with the skin on

1 Lemon sliced with rind and skin on

4 Cinnamon Sticks

1 tbsp Turmeric

1/4 tbsp Cayenne Pepper

6 sprigs or Rosemary

6 sprigs of Thyme

6 sprigs of Oregano

1 1/2 liters of Apple Cider Vinegar

3 tbsp Horseradish

After adding all of the ingredients to your jar, label and date the jar.

Store in a cool dark place for a month, shaking vigorously daily.

After the month has passed, strain your cider keeping the liquid and discarding the solid ingredients. This is when you can add honey or maple syrup to sweeten this to your liking.

How to use: Fire Cider is exceptionally spicy!! You can take a teaspoon or just a half a teaspoon daily to help strengthen your immune system over the fall and winter months. If it is too spicy for you you can add warm water to dilute it a bit.

Here are some of the benefits of each ingredient...

Ginger: anti-inflammatory, warming and stimulates the circulatory system, anti-viral helping fight against cold and flu.

Horseradish: boosts immune system, alleviates respiratory conditions and potential infections.

Jalapeño: capsaicin helps circulatory system, anti-viral, anti-microbial and has vitamin c.

Garlic: contains allium sativum which has anti-cancer and cardiovascular system benefits.

Onion: high in vitamin c, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, anti-cholesterol, antioxidant.

Rosemary: anti-inflammatory, helps loosen and clear chest congestion, relieves sore throat, digestive support.

Oregano: fights against infection, analgesic, anti-fungal, liver cleansing, anti-oxidant.

Thyme: can treat coughs and bronchitis, mood boosting, antimicrobial,

Turmeric: anti-inflammatory, detoxifying, promotes heart health, aids digestion, speeds metabolism.

I hope you found this helpful and will begin to make a batch of Fire Cider for you and or your family and community each fall!
